Research Overview

Andrew is a professorial fellow in Warwick University’s Department of Biological Sciences. Professor Price’s research is exciting, varied, and sometimes novel.

  • natural and human related risk factors influencing the outcome of the 2004 tsunami, Sri Lanka
  • robustness (resilience) as a framework for characterizing the vulnerability and sensitivity of coastal systems and, potentially, many other systems. (Andrew & colleagues have recently developed a new probabilistic metric of robustness which is spatially explicit)
  • application of a marine ecological similarity index (we developed in 2001) to forensic psychology, to improve the detection of serial sexual offences
  • assessment of tropical marine ecosystems, including development of new biodiversity metrics and delineation of biodiversity patterns, mainly in the Indian Ocean
  • ecology of the Arabian Gulf and assessment of environmental disturbances

Scientific publications

Andrew is author co-author of approximately 90 scientific publications, including 3 books, many book chapters, as well as articles in Marine Ecology Progress Series, Marine Pollution Bulletin and other international journals.

Teaching

Andrew currently teaches undergraduate courses at Warwick University on Biological Oceanography, Quantitative Biology, Ecology & Its Applications and Environmental Science & Management.

He jointly created and set up Warwick’s innovative, cross-disciplinary Masters degree (Ecosystems Analysis & Governance) in the 1990s, and has wide-ranging undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience in UK and overseas. He has also been a visiting professor at the World Maritime University, Malmø, Sweden.
